Brainspotting/EMDR
Brainspotting has roots in EMDR. Brainspotting therapy is a specialized type of treatment, helping patients process trauma or unpleasant memories by using "brain spots" that may be activated through the eyes.
Brainspotting:
Requires a focused eye position with possible resource or expanded spots
Includes somatic awareness (felt bodily sensations)
Occurs in harmony when the therapist's attunement triggers attachment brain circuits linked to safety, support, and connection
Naturally and instinctively navigates through clients’ experience once the focused eye position is established
Concerns trauma which can often be handled in a single therapy session since the mind & body process and release in an organic, instinctive way
Concentrates on the brain networks connected with trauma, whereas EMDR focuses on a single memory
Addresses the raw emotions of the amygdala, leaving the hippocampus (memory center) a backseat in the therapy process
